Want the fastest Windows XP Core Duo notebook? Then buy a Mac :).
According to benchmarks carried out by website GearLog, Apple’s MacBook Pro running Windows XP is a better Adobe Photoshop rig than any other Core Duo laptop on the market.
GearLog carried out their ‘XP on Macs’ test using the technique recently developed by Narf and Blanka, which allows Microsoft Windows XP to be booted onto Intel-based Macs – a trick that last week won them $13,000 in prize money (Read XP on Intel-Mac Competition)
They booted Windows XP on a 20″ iMac, a MacBook Pro, and a Mac Mini Intel Core Duo (with the help of the OnMac Wiki Guides) all in the same room. They then ran some benchmarks on the three machines, and came up with surprising results. The MacBook Pro is the fastest Core Duo laptop tested running the Photoshop scripts. It’s even faster than other laptops originally designed for Windows. This bodes very well for the performance of an Intel-accelerated OS X Photoshop, when that finally appears.
