Thanks to Petter Nilsson, a candidate of the Swedish TV show Toppkandidaterna (Top candidates), the Piratebay just won over 6000$. Petter Nilsson said earlier that he would donate over 6000$ (20% of the total prize money) to The Pirate Bay if he won. The contestants of the show had to pretend they were a politician and convince the public of their ideas. Petter was pro-filesharing, and won.
Petter said ?So when I donate my money to the Pirate Bay, it?s because I also want to be able to download music and movies for myself.?
The Pirate Bay is the worlds largest BitTorrent tracker and is known in the online file sharing community as one of the more prominent websites which distributes torrents that point to copyrighted material. In July 2005, new anti-piracy legislation was enacted in Sweden, however this did not affect The Pirate Bay which only offers .torrent files, which in and of themselves do not contain copyrighted material. The Pirate Bay is well known for the “legal” page it hosts featuring mockery of organizations sending copyright infringement notices and cease and desist letters to them.
ThePiratebay is planning to invest the money in a new database (HP DL145 G2, 4 gig RAM, 2 x Optron DualCore 2.2 GHz) and an new search (HP DL145 G2, 4 gig RAM, 1 x Optron DualCore 2.2 GHz) server.
gdgd, the speeds i get off them are really slow, less than 1KByte/sec. not that i ever download anything illegal of course
You don’t seem to understand the nature ‘BitTorrent’. You don’t download stuff from piratebay, they’re merely torrent trackers.
