Free Digg.com Clone! – Start your own Digg Site

You might have been to the popular digg.com website. Digg is a very popular website, and for a long time, many people have wanted to make their own website work like digg. There is a very good clone of Digg, ‘meneame’ and you can get the english translated version for free from Pligg.com Although pligg is a very good clone of digg, many people have had a difficult time trying to get it to work. I had gotton it to work, but didnt like it very much. For one, it has no administration panel, so the only way to delete posts and users is through phpmyadmin. Now, you can make your own digg.com like site, in a matter of a few minutes!

First, you will need WordPress. You can download it from wordpress.com. If you have cPanel with Fantastico, you can install it from there. Its a good idea to check if you have it in cPanel first becaues then you do not have to worry about setting the MySQL database. If you need help installing WordPress, refer to the installation guide here.

Once you have WordPress running, you will need to download this voting plugin:

Extract the zip file, and open up votio.php in any text editor. You should see the following line of code:

$vote_cats =

Change “Main,PSPX,VPSP,Web” to your categories. The list is case sensitive, so “MAIN” is different from “main”. Once you have done this, upload the votio folder to your “wp-content/plugins” folder.

Once you have uploaded the files, goto the administration panel of WordPress and click Plugins from the top. You should see the Votio plugin on this page, click the activate button next to it.

Now that the plugin is activated, click on the Presentation button at the top. This should take you to the themes page. Click on Theme Editor and click on Main Template on the right sidebar. Now, find:

and insert

<div style=”float:left”>< ?php votio_ballot_box();?></div>

right after that line.

Now, view your site and you should have a vote button. To customize this, select Stylesheet from the right sidebar and at the very bottom, add the following code:

text-align: center;
}

.votio .stars .vote {
cursor: hand;
}

.votio .votes {
font-size: xx-small;
}

Now, look at your site again, and you should have a nice looking vote button with a border!
