QR (Quick Response) codes have been extremely popular and widely used in Japan since its inception in 2004. These square “quick response†codes turn URLS, vCards, or any kind of text into a jumble of pixels that you can scan on your smartphone instantaneously, no typing required. In fact they can do much more than that. One quick scan can even pull-up an addressed and ready-to-send SMS.
The technology is steadily making it’s way across to the UK and US. At the end of 2009, Marks and Spencers introduced the codes on juice packaging in its Food To Go range. Consumers were able to access jokes, information about the product and daily offers by scanning the codes. [link]
